A scarce and sought after invitation to the event that John F. Kennedy was scheduled to appear at in Dallas Texas on November 22, 1963 the day of the President's assassination. President Kennedy was on his way to the Trade Mart luncheon to be held in his honor when he was shot. This is a numbered invitation (see reverse) On the front of the invitation is the John F. Kennedy memorial stamp that was later affixed and postmarked on the First Day of Issue, in Dallas Texas, the scene of his assassination. Truly a remarkable bit of history. The invitation includes a business card from Bert Shipp of WFAA-TV 8. Shipp who was an iconic Texas news reporter, and worked for one of the stations covering Kennedy's arrival in Texas.

“Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please. There has been a delay in the arrival of the motorcade. There has been a mishap. We believe from our report that we have just received that it is not serious.” He added, “As soon as we have something to tell you, believe me, we’ll do it.” Twelve minutes later Jonsson came to the podium again. With his voice breaking, he delivered the terrible news. “I’m not sure that I can say what I have to say. I feel a little bit like the fellow on Pearl Harbor Day. It is true that our president and Governor Connally in the motorcade have been shot.” He then asked Holcomb to say a prayer."
